“We are a busy people in a busy ... culture.
But even the business person wants wisdom and sense in busyness. …
All of us want to work smarter rather than harder. Yet all of us are familiar with frantic busyness
as a state that continually precludes us from opening to the quiet and contemplation it takes to be” wise.
What do we need to do to lead wisely and creatively in the 21st century? Building on Confucius’ wisdom and research from Harvard, it is clear that today’s leaders need to:
· REFLECT – to return to the quiet and contemplation it takes to be wise;
· GAIN PERSPECTIVE – to use the courage needed to see reality as it actually is,
· ASPIRE to exceptionally exciting possibilities; and
· INSPIRE others to move back to possibility.
Based on these leadership capacities and a range of artistic and wisdom traditions, the Leadership Insight journal was developed to support organizations’ and individuals’ ability to craft and implement strategies that make a positive difference in the world. Combining paintings, insights from world leaders, reflective questions, and most importantly, blank pages, the journal draws leaders away from their often frenzied lives and returns them to a deeper dialogue with their influence, and potential influence, on the world. By reintroducing a daily practice of reflection, the journal offers each of us the quiet and contemplation it takes to be wise.
